“Setting the standard for student leadership”

I held the top elected role in my school, and used it to fix something nobody had named: our community was fractured across grades and interest groups. I redesigned assemblies, championed a new student newsletter, personally secured a sponsorship from the CFL's Calgary Stampeders and started a weekly faculty highlights program to recognize staff who'd gone a decade without recognition. None of it was in the job description, I simply saw unmet needs and innovated to solve them.

I joined this team with less experience than everyone around me and worked my way to captain. The season I'm proudest of wasn't the one we won. It was the one where a five game losing streak nearly broke the team apart, and I had to be honest and a little vulnerable in front of guys I was supposed to be leading. We didn't fully turn the results around. But we finished that tournament more unified than we started it, and I was recognized at season's end as a role model for the whole club, not just my team.
